Friends are remodelling their house and I suggested Barn Doors to go over the door space rather than the internal sliding door they were thinking of. I showed them an image of barn doors and decision made on the spot!
As you can see there is major reconstruction happening at their house. A hundred year old miners cottage in a coal mining town. The wood heater has just be installed so at least the new paint can now dry.
They had some hardwood tounge and groove flooring left over from their kitchen floor, so I am using this for the main panels of the door. Seven boards wide and have clamped the T&G together and added a temporary horizontal brace at the top and bottom.
Now I need to find some hardwood that I can construct the ‘Z’ framing from. I also need to find a 3.6 metre length of 200mm X 25mm for hanging it from. I have some rough sawn 100mm X 100mm posts in mind that will need to be re-sawn and dressed.
More to come…
Home with some hardwood today, pretty wet from sitting out in the rain though. Will need to rip it and re-join it to get to the dimensions I require for the framing.
